If you test positive to COVID-19, you may be required to quarantine or self-isolate depending on what country or city you’re in. Many countries have penalties for breaking isolation rules, so it’s important you check with local authorities what the requirements are.

Some countries have government managed quarantine facilities or you’ll need to find suitable accommodation. You’re responsible for covering any costs involved with quarantine, which can be significant.

Be prepared for the possibility you may be in your destination longer than planned.

If you or a primary close contact of your travelling group tests positive, you won't be allowed to travel to Australia until you have recovered.If you have isolated and recovered but your PCR test results continue to be positive, you may be eligible for an exemption if you have a certificate from a medical practitioner. It’s important to note, the certificate must meet certain requirements outlined on the Department of Health website.Local authorities, airlines and transit locations may have more rules in place for departures. We recommend you check these before arriving at the airport. If you're transiting during your trip, check the local requirements at each transit destination. Confirm any specific rules for onward travel with your airline.

If you have any queries about entry or exit requirements, check with the relevant embassy or consulate of the destinations you’re transiting and travelling to. You should also confirm rules for departure with your airline, noting these rules may vary between airlines.

If you’ve been exposed to someone in your travel group who has tested positive to COVID-19, you’ll need to follow the requirements for isolation and testing in the city you are located.

A travel visa is a document issued by a foreign country that provides permission for you to gain entry into that country.  It is your responsibility to determine whether or not a travel visa is required for your upcoming trip. 

While the specific requirements vary, most countries require that you submit recent photographs, complete an application form, and submit your actual passport.  Your passport is required as the visa, if issued, is affixed to a blank visa page in your passport.  Other documents can also be required such as a detailed travel itinerary, health information, and invitation letters.

You can buy a ticket before your visa is issued. In fact, having a round trip ticket already booked when you apply for a visa is among the factors that may significantly increase the chances of your application being approved. Please review the fare rules for returning your ticket, in the case that your visa application is denied.

Visa requirements for different countries change from time to time. We therefore recommend that when you are making your travel plans, check the current visa requirements on the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the website of the consulate of the country you are traveling to.

Airlines are imposing their own vaccination policies. It’s your responsibility to check vaccination requirements with your travel agent or airline before booking your flights or arriving at the airport. This includes for any flights you will be transiting on to.

If your airline won’t let you board because you don’t meet their vaccination requirements, you’ll need to seek a flight that will accept you.

Accepted vaccination doses are determined by the government of each country and vary from country to country. You need to find out if your destination accepts travellers with mixed vaccine doses.

Yes. From 1 November 2021, Australians who want to travel overseas will be able to access an internationally recognised proof of vaccination document to prove their vaccination status abroad. The proof of vaccination for international travel will include a QR code that is readable globally and will comply with the standards set out by the International Civil Aviation Organization.

If you don’t qualify as fully vaccinated, you must apply for an exemption to leave Australia unless you are

- Unable to be vaccinated due to medical reasons

- Under 12 years of age

Exemptions are managed by the Department of Home Affairs.

If you have not yet reached 28 weeks, you do not need any kind of report in order to fly. However, if you are between the start of your 28th week and the end of your 35th week, you will need to provide a report from your doctor that says there is no particular reason for you not to fly.

If you or someone in your immediate travelling party test positive for COVID-19, you won’t be able to board your flight.

If you test positive in your pre-flight test, don’t go to the airport. Isolate immediately and contact the local health authority for advice on what to do.

You should supply your own mask and bring enough masks to last the duration of your journey. You should change your mask every 4 hours, or when your mask is wet. A cloth or surgical mask is acceptable.

The most important technique to equalise the pressure is the so-called Valsalva manoeuvre: Hold your nose, close your mouth and force air into the back of your throat. This opens the Eustachian tube and equalises the pressure.

As a precaution, you can use a nasal decongestant spray in both nostrils about half an hour before the aircraft leaves cruising altitude. This will free up the connecting passages between the sinuses and the middle ear, and equalise the pressure between the middle ear and the surrounding air.

You can also speed up the pressure equalisation by making chewing movements. It’s best to take a couple of pieces of chewing gum with you. You can also improve the pressure equalisation by making yourself yawn.

If you have a chronic inflammatory illness of the sinuses, you should visit your doctor before the flight.

- During your flight

Set the time of your watch to the time of the destination while you are in the aircraft. This way you can mentally adjust to the new time.

- On arrival

Try to follow the rhythm of life in the destination, i.e. eat at local times at your destination and only go to bed when the sun sets.

Try to get enough sleep the first night after you arrive.

Wherever possible, avoid tiring activities on the first two days after landing so that your body has time to get used to the new rhythm.

Try not to take sleeping pills and melatonin since these confuse the body.

Spend as much time as possible outdoors – daylight helps you get used to the new time more quickly.

For short trips, stick to the day-night rhythm at home – this way you avoid "double" jet lag.

If possible, stay at home for one or two days after your trip so you can get back to your normal rhythm in your own time.

Your included checked baggage allowances are determined according to your itinerary and are displayed when you make your booking. 

Different baggage allowances may apply each time you check-in baggage. If you check-in baggage for a multiple sector journey, usually the baggage allowance of the most significant carrier in your itinerary will apply.

All contents of your baggage need to be packed securely and appropriately. Do not pack valuables, essential medication or important documents in your checked baggage

You must ensure each item of checked baggage is labelled with your name, address and contact details. We recommend that you lock your baggage. However, it may be necessary for governments, airports or their contractors to open and inspect your baggage as part of the security screening process. If your baggage is locked, and you aren't present when it's necessary to open it, the lock may be broken by security screeners.

No single bag or item can weigh more than 32kg. If you have a checked-baggage allowance of 35kg or 40kg your baggage must be split over at least two bags, with no bag weighing more than 32kg.

Passengers travelling with infants have priority to sit in the bulkhead seat that has more space to place the bassinet. We encourage you to request for a bassinet when you book an infant ticket, as only a limited number of bassinets and bulkhead seats are available on board and offered on a first-come, first-served basis.

Most airlines provide services for unaccompanied minors so you can rest assured when your child has to travel alone. These services are provided to young passengers whose ages are between 5 years old and 12 years old and who are traveling without parents or guardians who are at least 18 years old.

Booking for unaccompanied minors must be made in advance.

Most airlines offer pre-ordering special meals for guests with religious or health dietary requirements. They also provide special meals for vegetarian, infant and small children. Special meals must be made 72 hours before departure.

Wheelchair service is available at most airlines. Passengers who have booked a wheelchair can contact airline staff to get the wheelchair when they arrive at the airport. Passengers can also use their own wheelchairs to get to the boarding gate. 

Passengers who use electric wheelchairs should consign the electric wheelchairs when checking in at the airport.

There are things you can do to make the flight as stress-free and entertaining as possible. For starters, it’s a good idea to arrive at the airport early, and make sure you bring your child's favourite food and a small quiet toy or blanket. And, of course, a good dose of patience and a smile will always go a long way.

Prams come in handy when travelling with kids. They help you walk a long way with a tired toddler, strap in a runaway, and give your arms a break.

Better yet, you can take a stroller and a car seat on your flight for no extra charge. They don't count as part of your baggage allowance. You can even take a pram or stroller if your fares do not include checked baggage.

You can bring a single stroller all the way on to the aircraft if it's completely collapsible and fits in the overhead locker

If the flight is full, your airline may ask you to check-in your stroller at the gate.

Prams, three-wheeled buggies and large strollers don't fit in the overhead locker. Please check these in on all flights.

Airlines are careful to ensure all young people are safe when they travel. They may be cautious if you're travelling with someone under 18 and you're not their parents. We recommend you carry:

A letter of consent signed by the child's parent or lawful guardian

A copy of the child's birth certificate.

As of July 7, 2017, passengers are requested to declare in the following cases:

- Having unaccompanied baggage;

- Having goods temporarily admitted or dispatched;

- Having dutiable goods: carrying over 1.5 litres of liquor with concentration of alcohol at above 20 degrees or over 2 litres of liquor with concentration of alcohol at below 20 degrees or over 3 liters of alcoholic drinks, beer; over 200 cigarettes; over 20 cigars; over 250 grams of raw tobacco; and other items with value of over VND 10,000,000;

- Carrying cash in foreign currencies, cash in Vietnamese currency, precious metal, gemstones, negotiable instruments, gold subject to customs declaration in accordance with Circular No. 35/2013/TT-NHNN dated December 31, 2013 and Circular No. 11/2014/TT-NHNN dated March 28, 2014 of the State bank of Vietnam, in particular:

+ Carrying over USD 5,000 or foreign equivalents or over VND 15,000,000;

++ Carrying drafts, cheques or precious metals (silver, platinum and alloy with silver or platinum), gemstones (diamond, ruby, sapphire, and emerald) with value of VND 300,000,000 or more;

+++ Carrying gold in following specific cases:

++ Passengers with border laissez-passer, border identity cards wear gold jewelry or art gold such as rings, necklaces , rings, earrings, needles and other jewelry with total weight of 300 grams or more;

++ Foreigners who are allowed to settle in Vietnam bring raw material gold, gold bars, jewelry gold and art gold items with a total weight of  300 grams or more.

++ Vietnamese who are allowed to settle abroad carry raw material gold, gold bars, gold jewelry and art gold items with a total weight of 300 grams or more.

++ Incoming passengers require customs authentication when bringing foreign currency with value of USD 5,000 or less (or other foreign currencies of equivalent value).

Make a list of places that you feel you must visit and another list of places that you would like to visit but which are not essential (i.e. sort your destinations according to priority). Decide on a budget for the trip and approximately how much you want to spend for the airfare.

Code sharing refers to a practice through which a flight operated by one airline is jointly marketed as a flight by one or more other airlines. Airlines codeshare because it's a way to share resources and offer more frequent service. The effect of code sharing on customers is minimal; however, it's important for customers to know which airline they will actually be travelling on.

In the aviation industry, a direct flight is any flight between two places that carries a single flight number, but which may include one or more stops where customers don’t have to change planes.

Customers travelling on connecting flights need to change from one plane or airline to another at an intermediate point, called the connecting point, en route to their destination.

It depends on where you're going, the length of your flight, and the cabin you’ve chosen to travel in.

The validity period of a special fare ticket is calculated according to related regulations. The validity period of a normal fare ticket which includes a one-way, round trip or multiple segment trip is one year. The validity period of an open ticket (non-scheduled flight) is calculated from 00:00 (zero hour) of the day after the date of the ticket issuance. The validity period of a fixed time ticket (scheduled flight) is calculated from the date after the commencement of travel. For all unused tickets, the validity period is one year from the date of issuance.

If your baby is on solids or formula, you can bring your own baby food and feeding equipment on board. Please note airlines don't have facilities for sterilising water or equipment.
